Protesters were reportedly throwing rocks at the police, who responded by using stun guns to subdue the protesters. The BBC News reports that opposition sources say at least three people have been killed in the violence.

The protesters attacked the headquarters of the president’s party, barging their way into the building before being forced out by police. Ukraine’s Interior Ministry claimed that five police officers were shot.

Unrest began in November 2013, after Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych opted to strengthen ties to Russia instead of forming an association with the European Union, angering many citizens. The latest protests come on the heals of additional loans from Russia to the Ukrainian government.
