Crisps new contract will pay him $22.75 million over the course of the 2015 and 2016 seasons. The deal also holds a 2017 option.

Batting lead-off for the Athletics last season, Crisp hit a career-high 22 home runs at the top of the lineup while also stealing 21 bases.

“I’m just grateful they put me up there and give me the opportunity to do that. If I hit 22, that’d be awesome. If I hit 23, that’d be better,” Crisp said, grinning. “If the best part of the wood gets ahold of the balls, that would be amazing.”

Even at age 34 and entering his 13th season in the Majors, Crisp is still a productive player and a veteran on a young Athletics team that has drastically improved in recent years.

In 2013, he batted .261 and drove in 66 runs.
