Beware of the ‘One Ring’ Phone Scam
Published at(NEW YORK) — If you get a call from an unfamiliar number, don’t call back. Experts say it’s a growing scam that’s costing consumers a lot of money.
It’s called the “One Ring” scam. Con artists call your phone and let it ring only once — just long enough to trigger your caller ID, and your curiosity, so you’ll call back.
But while it looks like a local number, it’s actually a pay-per-minute line in a foreign country in disguise. It costs $19.95 for an international fee, followed by $9 for every minute you’re on hold.
The Better Business Bureau suggests you Google the number first to see if others have been scammed by it.
