Braves Reward Freddie Freeman with Contract Extension

Brian D. Kersey/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — With free agency no longer what it used to be, the Atlanta Braves have wisely locked up one of their best young players as they’ve agreed on an eight-year, $135 million contract with first baseman Freddie Freeman.
It is the longest deal contract in Braves history.
“Freddie has established himself as one of the best young talents in the game,” Braves general manager Frank Wren said in a statement. “We are excited to sign one of our own homegrown players to a contract that will keep him in a Braves uniform for the next eight seasons.”
Since his first full season with the Braves in 2011, Freeman has steadily improved and has become one of the best young position players in baseball. In 2013, the 24-year-old Freeman hit .319 with 23 home runs and 109 RBIs. He also was second in all of Major League Baseball with a .443 batting average with runners in scoring position.
