Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak added, “I would like to see what the other doctor has to say and we will go from there.”

Last weekend, Garcia started to experience discomfort in his left shoulder, and then flew back to St. Louis to undergo an MRI.

Garcia was expected to be the lone lefty pitcher in the Cardinals rotation, but they have the depth to replace him going forward.  Adam Wainwright, Michael Wacha, Shelby Miller, and Lance Lynn are all likely locks for the Cardinals’ starting rotation. Joe Kelly and Carlos Martinez are expected to battle it out for the fifth and final spot in the rotation.

In nine starts last season before getting hurt, Garcia was 5-2 with a 3.58 ERA, and has a career 3.45 ERA since his Major League debut in 2008.
