Anthony has said before he plans to test free agency and opt out of the final year of his deal once the season ends, but it is unknown if his desire is to stay with the Knicks or sign with another team.

Under the current rules of the collective bargainign agreement, the Knicks can sign Anthony to a five-year deal worth $129 million.

“Without a doubt,” Anthony said if he’d take less money to stay with the team. “Any opportunity I have to build that up in New York, I’d do it. I told people all the time, always say, ‘If it takes me taking a pay cut, I’ll be the first one on [Knicks owner] Mr. [James] Dolan’s steps saying take my money and let’s build something strong over here.”

Despite Anthony’s immense scoring talent, the Knicks have been one of the most disappointing teams in the NBA this season as they sit at 20-32 at the All-Star break.
