The last playoff appearance for the Cowboys came back in 2009 and they failed to make the playoffs this year on the last game of the season.

“When you looked at that roster with DeMarcus Ware, Jason Witten, Tony Romo, and Miles Austin and all these guys that at some point they would be in the playoffs and have the opportunity to play for a championship,” Johnston told ABC Sports Radio on Thursday. “I have a concern now that the window of opportunity maybe closing on that group.”

Johnston believes that head coach Jason Garrett should stay even if the Cowboys fail to make the playoffs next season.

“There has to be a sense of urgency with this team,” Johnston said.  “If they like Jason Garrett as their head coach, they need to go out and have a good season.”

“Unless they were just to have one of those complete disaster seasons, there’s no reason to make the change.”
