Diamondbacks Extend GM Kevin Towers, Manager Kirk Gibson

Brian D. Kersey/Getty Images(PHOENIX) — Convinced that the team will only get better in the upcoming years, the Arizona Diamondbacks have extended the contracts of general manager Kevin Towers and manager Kirk Gibson.
“I’m certainly very excited,” Towers said, “As is Gibby. This is a place where we hope we get to spend the rest of our careers at.”
Both were set to have their contracts expire at the end of the season. The length of the contracts were not disclosed.
Towers has been the team’s general manger since 2011. That season, the team went 94-68 and won the NL West division. But they’ve gone 81-81 during the past two seasons.
Gibson was hired as the team’s bench coach back in 2007, and he’s worked his way up to being a very well respected manager.
“I don’t take things lightly,” he said. “There are only 30 of these jobs.”
Pitchers and catchers report to spring training at the Dimaondbacks’ facility in Scottsdale on Thursday.
