After his dismissal from the Cincinnati Reds earlier in the offseason, Baker wants another chance to manage.

“I feel like I could help somebody,” Baker told the San Jose Mercury News.

Despite winning over 90 games three out of the last four seasons, the Reds had very little postseason success under Baker. Most recently they lost the National League Wild Card Game.

Since joining the Reds 2008, Baker had a postseason record of 2-7.

When Baker was let go, officials promoted the move as Baker retiring or “taking a year off,” the Mercury News reported.

“Why? That’s not what I wanted. I know when I’ll want to retire,” Baker added. “…I said ‘Let’s call it what it is.'”

Baker has been a Major League Manager with the San Francisco Giants, Chicago Cubs, and the Reds. He’s experienced plenty of regular season success, but has a 19-26 record in the postseason during his career.
