Freestyle Skier Maggie Voisin to Miss Olympics with Ankle Injury

ABC Sports Radio (SOCHI, RUSSIA) — U.S. freestyle skier Maggie Voisin is out of the Olympics due to an ankle injury.
The 15-year-old Voisin is the youngest member of Team USA. She injured her right ankle during training on Friday and doctors said she would not be able to recover in time for Tuesday’s competition.
She was the second U.S. skier to be ruled out of the Games in as many days after moguls hopeful Heidi Kloser suffered a leg injury before qualification began Thursday. Voisin is the youngest American Winter Olympian since 1972.
“Maggie distinguished herself as one of the top slopestyle athletes in the world in qualifying for Team USA,” Luke Bodensteiner, executive vice president for athletics for the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association, said in a statement. “We’re disappointed for her in being unable to start but have great respect for what she accomplished to get here. Unfortunately there is not sufficient time to seek a replacement and have that athlete properly prepare for Tuesday’s competition.”
Voisin was considered by many to be a medal contender in Sochi. She won silver in the X games and was a discretionary pick by the U.S. Ski Team.
