In the article, published Monday in both The Washington Post and French newspaper Le Monde, the two leaders discuss what they call the growing U.S.-French alliance, progress halting Iran’s nuclear program and their leadership combating climate change.

Hollande kicks off his trip to the U.S. on Monday, traveling to Charlottesville, Va., with Obama in the afternoon, where they will tour Monticello, the home of former President and Founding Father of the U.S. Thomas Jefferson.

“As the residence of Thomas Jefferson, one of the United States’ earliest envoys to France, Monticello reflects Jefferson’s affection for the people of France, the long-standing relations between our two democracies, and the shared values we hold dear: life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness,” the White House said in a statement Monday.

After the tour, Obama and Hollande will deliver remarks before returning to Washington, D.C.
