(DUBAI, United Arab Emirates) — Scotland’s Stephen Gallacher won the Dubai Desert Classic championship on Sunday by one stroke over Emiliano Grillo of Argentina. Gallacher becomes the first player to successfully defend the title in the tournament’s 25-year history.
The 39-year-old Gallacher opened the final round with four bogeys over the first eight holes. He found his game on the back nine, when he birdied 11, 13, 16 and 17.
Two-time tournament winner Tiger Woods finished tied for 41st at six under while two-time Major champion Rory McIlroy was at 12 under.
For Gallacher, it’s only his third victory in 18 years and 431 events on the European Tour.
