Hamilton injured the calf Tuesday while participating in a baserunning drill. He left the clubhouse that day on crutches.

“It’s something that will definitely heal on its own and it’s just going to take some time and the time-frame we’re getting is the minimum of a couple of weeks,” Scioscia said. “As of right now we’re very optimistic that he’ll get back in here and he can get back in shape for the start of the season.”
Hamilton is entering the second year of a five-year, $125 million contract he signed with the Angels after the 2012 season. During his first year in Anaheim, the former American League MVP played in 151 games, hitting .250 with 21 home runs and 79 RBIs.
