(COLUMBIA, Ky.) — A gas line exploded Thursday morning in Adair County, Ky., setting nearby homes on fire and sending at least one person to the hospital, county EMA director Greg Thomas told ABC News.
The explosion destroyed three homes, along with barns and cars, Thomas said, leaving a small crater in the ground and lots of debris.
The line is owned by Columbia Gulf Transmission.
At least one person was transported to a local hospital with burns, but there’s no word on the victim’s condition, Thomas said. Officials with Westlake Regional Hospital declined to release information on any patients connected to the explosion.
Area fire departments and emergency responders are lending support.
Michael Clinkscales, a student at Lindsey Wilson College, was with his fiancée Kaitlyn Davis when the explosion happened. Their photographs — taken about 20 miles away from the site of the explosion — show the night sky illuminated by bright flames.
Adair County is located in south-central Kentucky.
