Speaking with Wonderland magazine, Rowling tells guest editor and Harry Potter film star Emma Watson that Hermione Granger should have become romantically involved with the titular wizard at the end of the series, rather than Ron Weasley.

In an excerpt published by the U.K.’s Sunday Times, Rowling says, “I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment.  That’s how it was conceived, really.  For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.”

Watson played Hermione in the Harry Potter movies.  Rupert Grint was Ron, and Daniel Radcliffe starred as Harry.
