Lawmaker Drops Religious Freedom Bill
Published at(BOISE, ID) – Republican Rep. Lynn Luker of Boise has withdrawn legislation that would’ve allowed religious business owners to refuse service to gays and lesbians. Luker says his bill was only meant to protect religious freedom, but can understand why some might view it as a “sword for discrimination.” Luker wants to take more time to review other options for protecting businesses. The bill was aimed at counteracting lawsuits in Oregon and New Mexico, where Christian business owners were sued for discrimination by gay and lesbian couples after they were denied service.
