Published at(SYRACUSE, N.Y.) — C.J. Fair scored 19 points as top-ranked Syracuse defeated Clemson 57-44 on Sunday to improve to 23-0 on the season.
Fair was 8-of-13 from the field while facing off against Clemson’s K.J. McDaniels. McDaniels had 19 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.
Syracuse (23-0, 10-0, ACC) extended its school record for wins to start a season and matched the program mark for consecutive wins, established in the 1916-17 and 1917-18 seasons.
The Orange have faced a slow pace for the majority of the season. Once Tyler Ennis hit a layup with 6:56 remaining to make the score 48-37, head coach Jim Boeheim knew the game was all but over.
“You really don’t want to be behind in a slow game,” Boeheim said. “There aren’t going to be a lot of points scored.”
Clemson (15-7, 6-4) faced the top team in the nation for the 10th time in school history, but have yet to emerge victorious.
