On Jan. 13, Chad Oulson and his wife Nichole were at a Florida movie theater, while their daughter was home with a babysitter. During the previews for the film Lone Survivor, Chad Oulson sent a text message to the babysitter, apparently upsetting Curtis Reeves.

The former police captain got into a heated argument with Oulson before opting to report the incident to the theater’s managers. When he returned, the argument resumed and escalated. Oulson apparently threw a bag of popcorn at Reeves, and Reeves responded by pulling out a .380 semi-automatic handgun and shot him.

Oulson, 43, died later that night.

At a Friday bond hearing, a grainy surveillance video of the incident was played. Also played were audio tapes recorded by detectives with both Reeves and Nichole Oulson. In one of the audio tapes, Reeves says “If I had it to do over again, it would have never happened. But you don’t get do-overs.”

Reeves will remain in custody, though he can appeal the ruling.
