Padres’ Pitcher Josh Johnson Finally Feeling Like His Old Self

Brian D. Kersey/Getty Images(NEW YORK) — San Diego Padres pitcher Johnson thinks this year he’ll finally get his career back on track after injuries derailed his career in recent years. Still, he recently told MLB.com that he’s happy
head coach Tim Chambers can see an improvement too.
“He walked up to me and said, ‘I can see a difference in just you playing catch at the 75 feet or what it was at the time,” he said. “That was huge. I’ve felt good but then to have somebody else say I can see a difference, can see the extension…that was nice.”
Back in 2009, Johnson turned heads when he posted a 3.23 ERA and even more when he went 11-6 with a 2.30 ERA in 2010 with the Florida Marlins. He had trouble staying healthy, but when on the mound, he was one of the better pitchers in the National League.
After making just nine starts in 2011, posting a 3.81 ERA in 2012, Johnson had the worst season of his career in 2012 with the Toronto Blue Jays as he went just 2-8 with a 6.20 ERA.
In nine seasons, Johnson has gone 58-45 with a 3.40 ERA.
