Phillies Sign A.J. Burnett
Published at(NEW YORK) — The Philadelphia Phillies signed veteran pitcher A.J. Burnett to a one-year contract on Wednesday, reports the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Burnett was considering retiring if he was unable to sign on with a team close to his Monkton, Md. home.
Burnett was 10-11 with a 3.30 ERA for the Pirates last season. He led the Pirates with 191 innings pitched.
Burnett will join a staff that includes Cole Hamels, Cliff Lee, and Kyle Kendrick.
Hamels, who was hoping to make the Opening Day start, will not be available due to a case of biceps tendinitis.
