But after offseason surgery, Cabera is feeling healthy and confident heading into the new season.

During the offseason, Cabrera had surgery to repair core muscles damaged by a groin tear. He’s doing new exercises to help keep his core strong and to stay healthy this season.

“I’ve gotten a lot stronger,” Cabrera told reporters, according to MLB.com. “I’ve tried to make sure everything’s going to be good when I start baseball. That’s what I do differently.”

“Oh my God, I feel free, like I can do anything right now,” Cabrera added. “I don’t worry about anything. I don’t worry if it’s going to hurt, if it’s going to feel good if I do this. I feel free, ready to go.”

Despite his late-season struggles, Cabrera took home his second consecutive American League MVP Award in 2013.

In 2013, Cabrera hit .348 with 44 home runs and 137 RBIs.
