Most economists had expected to see around 170,000 jobs added last month.

The unemployment rate, meanwhile, fell from 6.7 percent to 6.6 percent — the lowest rate since October 2008.

The Labor Department on Friday also revised its numbers for November and December to show that 34,000 more jobs were added during those months.
