It is the first Elite Eight appearance for the Flyers, the region’s 11-seed, since reaching this round in 1984.

Utilizing its depth, Dayton (26-10) jumped out a 42-32 halftime lead and never looked back. A total of 12 players gave quality minutes for head coach Archie Miller, led by Jordan Sibert’s 18 points. Devin Oliver added 12 points and seven rebounds in the win.

Leading 22-21 in the first half, the Flyers went on a 12-2 run to extend their lead into double digits. Kendall Pollard had seven of his season-best 12 points during that span. Stanford (23-13) went on a 7-0 run early in the second half to cut the deficit to four, only to watch Dayton go on an 8-0 of their own to regain control.

As a team, the Flyers shot 48.3 percent from the floor while holding the Cardinal to 22-of-58 (37.9%). Chasson Randle paced all players with 21 points in the loss. Dayton will take on the top overall seed Florida in the Elite Eight on Saturday and look to reach their first Final Four since the 1967 season.
