The No. 11 Cardinals raced out to a 17-5 lead and never trailed as they stomped No. 19 UConn 81-48 Saturday, earning them a share of the American Athletic Conference championship.

Louisville (26-5, 15-3 AAC) shares the AAC regular-season title with Cincinnati. The Bearcats won a coin flip to determine who would be the top-seed in the upcoming conference tournament so Louisville will be the No. 2 seed.

Montrezl Harrell had a game-high 20 points to go along with 11 rebounds and Russ Smith dished out a career-high 13 assists in his final home game for Louisville.

Meanwhile, UConn (24-7, 12-6) shot a season-worst 29.4% from the field in the loss.

“I didn’t see anything like this coming,” UConn head coach Kevin Ollie said. “And I’m glad it came because now we know how tough we have to be to be a champion.”We weren’t tough enough. We weren’t together enough. Louisville took every opportunity to take advantage of it. … That’s what champions do.”

DeAndre Daniels scored a team-high 17 points for UConn, which had its four-game winning streak snapped.

UConn will be the No. 4 seed in the upcoming conference tournament.
