(CHAPEL HILL, N.C.) — James Michael McAdoo hit the go-ahead jumper with 3:09 left, and No. 14 North Carolina held on a for a 63-61 victory over Notre Dame.
Marcus Paige chipped in seven points and six assists off the bench for the Tar Heels (23-7, 12-4 ACC), who earned their 12th straight victory in their last home game. Paige also blocked Notre Dame guard Eric Atkins’ driving shot on the final play to seal the win.
“I said Saturday to have a really good year you’ve got to win some games ugly,” North Carolina head coach Roy Williams said. “I’m tired of winning games ugly…I really thought we’d have a tremendous sense of urgency today. We played so much harder at practice yesterday than we did in the game today. We learned those lessons earlier in the season but we’ve let them slip by us here the last couple of games.”
North Carolina began ACC play with an 0-3 record, but they’ve been on a roll as of late and have not lost a game since Jan. 20 at No. 5 Virginia.
Atkins led Notre Dame (15-16, 6-12) with 21 points.
