DeAndre Kane scored 24 points with 10 rebounds and made the game winning layup with 1.6 seconds left to give the Cyclones a matchup with the seventh-seeded Huskies.

North Carolina guard Nate Britt was unable to call a timeout in time after the Kane basket and time expired to give Iowa State the win.  Officials met for several minutes and reviewed the clock to make sure no time was left.

Melvin Ejim scored 19 and Dustin Hogue had 14 with seven rebounds.

Marcus Paige scored 19 points and Kennedy Meeks added 15 in the loss for the Tar Heels.
