Dave Camp, R-Mich., announced on Monday that he will not seek reelection to the U.S. House of Representatives, giving up his position as chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee.

Camp has served in the House since 1991 and has headed the Ways and Means Committee since 2011. Camp said he reached his decision, “after much consideration and discussion” with his family.

Camp plans to serve out his current term, and will not seek re-election in November.

The Republican said he would use the rest of his term to, “redouble my efforts to grow our economy and expand opportunity for every American by fixing our broken tax code, permanently solving physician payments for seniors, strengthening the social safety net and finding new markets for U.S. goods and services.”
