Benjamin Sorrells, 35, was reportedly leaning over the side of the boat when he fell. He was not wearing a life jacket at the time. The crew of the boat, the AC III, attempted to rescue him, to no avail.

Coast Guard rescue crews searched the area for 34 hours, covering over 1,980 square miles. The U.S. Coast Guard’s Chief of Response Cmdr. Eric King offered condolences to Sorrells’ family, and reminded boaters of “the importance of wearing your life jacket.”
