Colo. School Lifts Ban on Girl Who Shaved Her Head for Sick Friend
Published at(GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.) — Kamryn Renfro shaved all her hair off to show solidarity for a friend fighting a fourth relapse of childhood cancer.
For that, the 9-year-old was briefly banned from Caprock Academy in Grand Junction, Colo., because her shaved head violated the charter school’s dress code.
The girl’s mom, Jamie Renfro, says that the school has since come around to allowing her daughter to return to the school after a one-day absence as the board of directors met late Tuesday and voted 3-1 to grant Kamryn Renfro a waiver, thereby allowing exceptions to the dress code under extraordinary circumstances.
In a Facebook post, Kamryn Renfro’s mom said she never expected her child “would do something so courageous, brave and selfless.”
The third-grader shaved her head after Delaney Clements’ neuroblastoma form of cancer returned last month, forcing the 11-year-old to start a third round of chemotherapy.
