(BOISE, ID) – The Joint-Finance Appropriations Committee voted to move forward on a bill Friday that would give a 2.5 percent raise to Idaho’s top administrators. About $22,000 has been set aside to finance raises for the governor, secretary of state, treasurer, controller, and superintendent of public schools. Opponents argued that the raises weren’t fair to other state workers, many of whom have had scheduled raises delayed because of financial constraints. Sen. Roy Lacey of Pocatello, who supported the bill, says higher salaries will do more to attract the best and brightest to seek elected positions.
