Crimea’s Attorney General Becomes Anime Star
(NEW YORK) -- Crimea’s newly-appointed attorney general has been turned into an anime star by adoring Japanese fans who are more focused on her looks than politics.
Natalia Poklonskaya, 33, has been the unwitting star of fan art since she made her debut on the world stage at a news conference earlier this month as the prosecutor of the new Crimean Republic.
In comments under a short video re-posted in Japanese on YouTube of the wide-eyed, blonde prosecutor addressing reporters, fans didn’t mention concerns over Russia’s annexation of the peninsula from Ukraine.
Instead, the video has garnered more than 640,000 views, eliciting comments about Poklonskaya’s appearance.
One person called her a “Prosecutie,” while another said, “ I wish she could work abroad I would like a leader like her.”
Poklonskaya told local media she wasn’t aware of her international fame and said she just wanted to be evaluated ”on the way in which I do my job,” the New York Post reported.
