(NEW YORK) — Texas Rangers starting pitcher Yu Darvish has no structural damage in his neck.
The 27-year-old righty was cleared to resume throwing Saturday after being examined by back specialist Drew Dossett in Dallas on Wednesday.
Darvish complained of neck stiffness last week and missed his scheduled Friday start.
Darvish originally thought the problem was from sleeping on his neck funny and thought he would be able to return in a few days, but he hadn’t been able to throw since, so the Rangers sent him to Dr. Dossett.
Darvish finished second in the AL Cy Young Award voting last season, pitching 209.2 innings while throwing 277 strikeouts and earning a 2.83 ERA, and a 1.07 WHIP.
