Winston was one of the voices for the players during the 2011 lockout and served on the union’s committees for finance and agent discipline.

Winston was among three candidates that included Saints tight end Ben Watson and free agent safety Ryan Clark.

Winston is currently a free agent, but played last season for the Cardinals. He started 112 consecutive games for the Texans, Chiefs, and Arizona.

Winston takes over for Domonique Foxworth, who was elected to the post in 2012 following four years of service on the executive committee.
