(NEW YORK) — After eight years with the Chicago Bears, returner Devin Hester has agreed on a three-year deal with the Atlanta Falcons.
Even at age 32, Hester remains one of the best return threats in the entire NFL and could one day find himself in the Hall of Fame as a result. During his career with the Bears, Hester has 18 combined kickoff and punt return touchdowns, the most in NFL history.
Hester figures to add an upgrade to the Falcons’ special teams unit. In 2013, Hester averaged 27.6 yards per kickoff and 14.2 yards per punt return. Last season, Falcons’ returners averaged 24.4 yards per kickoff and 8.3 yards on punt returns.
After serving as a returner exclusively last season with the Bears, Hester is expected to be part of the Falcons in 2014 as a receiver.
The Falcons have had a busy off-season so far. Aside from Hester, they’ve signed defensive tackle Paul Soliai, defensive end Tyson Jackson, guard Jon Asamoah, and defensive back Javier Arenas.
