Gen. Martin Dempsey Jokes with Kermit the Frog
Published at(WASHINGTON) — Here’s something you don’t see every day: the chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff joking around with a Muppet.
As part of her Joining Forces initiative, first lady Michelle Obama held a special screening for military children and families of Disney’s Muppets Most Wanted at the White House Wednesday. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey, and the star of the film, Kermit the Frog, also attended.
A few of the highlights:
— The nation’s highest-ranking military officer told a few jokes to warm up the kids in the crowd: “What do you call a pig that knows karate? Pork chop.” “What is a frog’s favorite kind of music? Hip hop.”
— Dempsey presented Kermit, “as the senior Muppet,” a coin from “the senior military officer” on behalf of “the Armed Forces, and especially on behalf of this group of great soldier, sailor, airman, Marine spouses and children.”
— Kermit, who was running a bit late, said he would have been there sooner “but it took me a while to get through security… I still don’t understand how a frog with no clothes could set off a metal detector…” He was interrupted by Dempsey who quipped, “you ought to try to get through with this on,” referencing his impressive brass.
