(IDAHO FALLS, ID) – Now that Daylight Saving Time is in effect, officials with the Idaho Falls Fire Department are encouraging area residents to check their smoke detectors. Captain Cody Anderson says that checking batteries at least twice a year can be the difference between life and death. According to the National Fire Protection Association, nearly one in three home fire deaths are in structures where no smoke detectors are present. Anderson also recommends fully replacing smoke detectors and other safety devices every ten years.
