(JACKSONVILLE, Fla.) — The Jacksonville Jaguars traded quarterback Blaine Gabbert to the San Francisco 49ers on Tuesday.
Gabbert was the 10th overall selection by Jacksonville in the 2011 draft, but never lived up to expectations.
San Francisco will send back a sixth-round pick in this year’s draft and a possible conditional pick in 2015, reports ESPN.com.
“We have a good relationship with San Francisco and it was a good opportunity for the Jacksonville Jaguars to increase our stock in the draft but it was also a good opportunity for Blaine to get a fresh start,” Jaguars general manager David Caldwell said. “I know they’re excited about having him and it’s a good move for all parties involved.”
Gabbert suffered a hamstring injury in Week 5 against the Rams last season and was replaced by Chad Henne.
Gabbert started three games and completed 49 percent of his passes for 481 yards last season. He also had one touchdown with seven interceptions in 2013.
