Jets Cut Cromartie
Published at(NEW YORK) — The New York Jets cut cornerback Antonio Cromartie Sunday.
The move frees up $9.5 million in cap space for the Jets, who would have owed Cromartie a $5 million bonus in the upcoming days.
The 29-year-old Cromartie made the Pro Bowl last season despite dealing with a hip injury all season.
“Cro is one of the finest athletes I’ve ever coached,” Jets head coach Rex Ryan said in a statement. “He was willing to contribute wherever the team needed him to win games, be it defense, special teams or offense.”
Cromartie played four seasons for the Jets. During that time he started 63 games while recording 140 tackles, 13 interceptions, 55 passes defended and two forced fumbles.
