(WASHINGTON) — Secretary of State John Kerry will travel to Kiev on Tuesday to meet with the Ukrainian transitional government.
The U.S. State Department says that Kerry will meet with “senior representatives of Ukraine’s new government, leaders of the Rada — the Ukrainian parliament, and members of civil society.” Kerry, the State Department says, will reiterate the United States’ support for Ukrainian sovereignty.
An official from the Obama administration said on Sunday that “there is no question [the Russians] are in an occupation position and that they are flying in reinforcements and settling in.”
On Saturday, the U.S. ceased preparatory discussions for the G8 summit, a move copied by Canada, France and the United Kingdom.
