Johnson had eight career wins at the short-track, but took home second and was followed by Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Joey Logano.

Busch went 84 Sprint Cup races without a win and was hoping to take home a grandfather clock this weekend after having success at the track last season.

“I’ve been on this journey for a while and every time you come to Martinsville, you just kind of draw a line through it like there’s no way I’ll be able to challenge those Hendrick guys or be up in the top 10,” Busch said.

Busch 25th career victory came in his first season racing for Stewart-Haas Racing.

“It’s a dream come true to have Gene Haas call you and tell you he wants you to drive,” Busch said. “He wants to go for trophies and wins. It’s just an unbelievable feeling to deliver for Haas Automation.”

Kurt’s younger brother Kyle finished in 14th after winning the pole.
