The Detroit Free Press reports that Pettigrew’s deal is worth $16 million, and he will get $8 million guaranteed.

Pettigrew has spent his first five seasons of his career with the Lions after the team selected him in the first round back in the 2009 draft.

The team has asked him in recent seasons to take a hit statistically to focus more on blocking for the team.

After catching a career-high 83 passes for 777 yards in 2011, Pettigrew’s receptions have fallen off each of the past two seasons. He caught 59 passes in 2012 and 41 passes in 2013.

Reserve tight end Joseph Fauria emerged in 2013 as the team’s red-zone threat as he caught seven touchdowns his rookie year.
