Panthers QB Cam Newton Undergoes Ankle Surgery
(CHARLOTTE, N.C.) -- Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton will had ankle surgery on Wednesday.
The surgery was on an issue that has bothered him since the end of the season.
"The ankle was sore after the San Francisco game and we wanted to see if rest would calm it down, but it is still bothering him and the decision was made to address it," Panthers head trainer Ryan Vermillion said in a team release on Tuesday.
Newton is expected to be ready for the season, but will miss four months of action and possibly minicamp in June.
The two-time Pro Bowler is entering his fourth season with the team, and the team would like to sign him to a new deal.
Newton is eligible for an extension for the fifth year under his current contract.
