Sochi Looks Like a Ghost Town Month After Winter Olympics

Weeks after the Paralympics left town, new pictures show empty streets around the Olympic Village. In some places, sidewalks and curbs have already broken.

This was not unexpected — the stadiums were built far from town and there’s little reason to go there now.

The village will next be sold as condos but few buyers are expected. The city’s managers are hoping winter crowds will ski at the new Olympic slopes and sun-seekers will flock to the coast in the summer like they did in the Soviet days. But analysts say there are just too many rooms chasing too few tourists.

And with Sochi’s plans to host the G8 summit canceled by Russia’s expulsion from the group, the former Olympic city has even less to look forward to.
