(DALLAS) — A Texas family grew from three to eight this week after a mother gave birth to quintuplets.
Michelle Seals, the proud mother, gave birth to four girls and one boy though a cesarean section Tuesday at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.
“We are so blessed to have welcomed five new members of our family into the world Tuesday afternoon – four girls and one boy – Mia, Tessa, Gracie, Rayleigh and Brant. They are all healthy and doing well. We would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support,” Steven and Michelle Seals said in a statement Wednesday.
That makes six kids for Michelle and her husband, Steven, who have been married for seven years. The couple from Maud, Texas, just celebrated their son Brady’s second birthday this month.
According to a news release from Baylor University Medical Center, the babies all weighed in the range of three pounds, with the lightest baby weighing just 2.7 pounds, and the heaviest, the boy, weighing in at 3.6 pounds.
Michelle Seals has been blogging about her journey through pregnancy on her blog, “The Sweet Life.”
In her entry from Wednesday, March 12, Seals wrote, “I’m 7 months pregnant with the quints!!!! What a blessing it is to finally make it to that big 28 week milestone we’ve been working towards.”
That post was last week, which meant she gave birth Tuesday at just shy of 29 weeks.
According to her blog, Seals has been at Baylor University Medical Center for almost six weeks.
In a statement, representatives from Baylor University Medical Center said the Seals’ birth was a first for the hospital.
“The Seals quintuplets are the first quintuplets ever born at Baylor University Medical Center in its 110+ year history,” the hospital said. “Nearly two dozen physicians and nursing staff took part in the delivery and care of the babies….All five infants are currently being monitored in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit.”
On a previous blog post, Michelle Seals thanked everyone for their support and prayers.
“I want to thank everyone who’s been praying for us,” she wrote. “I know the only reason I’ve made it this far is because of all the prayers people have been saying on our behalf and God saying yes to those prayers.”
