The 86th Annual Academy Awards: The Best Lines of the Night

Sony Classics(LOS ANGELES) — The Academy Awards had no shortage of memorable moments. Here are some of the top lines of the night:
Host Ellen DeGeneres wasted no time cracking jokes during her opening monologue. DeGeneres told the actors they have made over 1,400 films, but they have “gone to a total of six years of college.”
She also called out nominee Jennifer Lawrence for falling at the award ceremony two years in a row. “If you win tonight I think we should bring you the Oscar,” DeGeneres said.
Dallas Buyers Club‘s Jared Leto gave a heartfelt speech after his Best Supporting Actor win.
He first paid tribute to his single mother as he told the story of a “teenage girl who was pregnant with her second child. She was a high-school dropout and a single mom, but somehow she managed to make a better life for herself and her children.”
Leto also had a broader message: “to those of you out there who have ever felt injustice because of who you are or who you love, tonight I stand here in front of the world with you and for you.”
Lupita Nyong’o gave a touching speech after her win for Best Supporting Actress in 12 Years a Slave. The core of her speech: “No matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.”
And for the Best Actress and Best Actor speeches… while Cate Blanchett emphasized how people want to see women-centered films and that “in fact, they earn money,” Matthew McConaughey made sure to fit in his signature “alright alright alright” line.
But the best line of the night officially goes to John Travolta. While introducing Idina Menzel, Travolta completely mispronounced her name, calling the Broadway star something that sounded like “Adele Dazeem.” But Menzel performed without a comment, so maybe she just “Let it Go.”
