Tree-Killing Grub Could Reach Idaho

(IDAHO FALLS, ID) – A tree-killing insect that is wreaking havoc on alpine forests on the East Coast could soon reach eastern Idaho.  The Emerald Ash Borer has already been reported in Colorado. The bug, which has origins in Asia, plants its eggs on trees. When the eggs hatch, the offspring drill into the trunk and slowly kill it within two or three seasons. Experts say insecticides are available to ward off the bugs in urban areas, but they may be more difficult to contain once an outbreak occurs in a larger forested area.
