(GALVESTON, TX) – Polygamist leader Warren Jeffs was hospitalized last week. Officials say Jeffs remains in stable condition at a hospital in Galveston, Texas. Jeffs has required emergency care several times since his capture in 2006 because of hunger strikes. Jeffs, who was given a life sentence on sexual assault charges in 2011, remains the ecclesiastical head of the FLDS Church, which has extensive property holdings in Arizona, Utah, Colorado, and Idaho. Prosecutors say Jeffs continues to run the church from prison, though he is barred from having contact with an estimated two dozen underage girls he’s married since 2002.
