Westboro Baptist Church Founder Dies

Michael S. Williamson/The Washington Post via Getty Images(TOPEKA, Kan.) — The Rev. Fred Phelps Sr., who founded the Westboro Baptist Church, known for its anti-gay protests and for picketing the funerals of U.S. service men and women, has died.
Phelps’ church preached that the deaths of American soldiers were God’s punishment for tolerance of homosexuality in the U.S.
Phelps’ family confirmed to ABC News that the minister passed away Wednesday night in Topeka, Kansas. He was 84 years old.
