Yellowstone Ends Bison Slaughtering for Season
Published at(BILLINGS, MT) – Yellowstone National Park administrators have ended this season’s bison shipments out of the park. A total of 258 bison were sent to slaughterhouses, and at least 254 were killed by Montana hunters. Another 60 were placed in an animal contraception research program. The shipments and controlled hunts were all part of a broader plan to reduce Yellowstone’s bison herds to about 3,000 animals, which biologists believe will reduce the likelihood of brucellosis being spread to livestock living outside park boundaries.
