Archbishop of Atlanta to Sell $2.2 Million Mansion
Published at | Updated at(ATLANTA) — Three months after moving in, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Atlanta agreed Saturday to move out of his custom built, $2.2 million Tudor-style mansion.
Archbishop Wilton Gregory made the decision after a closed-door meeting with a council of local clergy and parishioners.
Pope Francis has demanded church leaders practice more austerity, and earlier this week Archbishop Gregory apologized for the faux pas.
“I’m disappointed in myself, and I don’t intend to do that mistake again,” the Archbishop said.
The 6,000-square-foot home features an elevator, two dining rooms, and a panic room. The Archbishop will move out in May and says money from the sale will go back to the Catholic community.
